Doom and Gloom
Doom comes from the Anglo-Saxon word for judgement and gloom refers to a dull and depressing level of light. Some religious groups are particularly associated with matters of decisions and darkness. The Free Presbyterian Church of Scotland, which has a presence on Lewis and Harris, tends to be uncompromising and one of its ministers has spoken out against an independent Scotland. His arguments are outlined on the BBC website. The photograph is of the Stornoway Free Presbyterian Church - one of six rival presbyterian denominations in that town.
