Single-Figure Killers


When island populations shrink to single-figures, there is understandable alarm. That warning is apparent, too, when a group of killer whales is involved. The now five female and four male members of the only orca family permanently resident in British and Irish waters are nine-strong (or weak) and it's some time since breeding took place.
