A pod of some 30 pilot whales off Firths Voe, Mossbank, Shetland came close to mass stranding on Monday morning. Something, perhaps, had gone wrong with the navigational features of the mis-named, leading pilot whale. Several things happened: the authorities were alerted, BP sent two boats to herd them out to sea, Ivan Hawick was there to photograph them, Shetland News came to gather the whole story.
