Depopulation Forecast


The Summit Stone, Taransay, photographed by Mick Parmenter, is located on a once-thriving island. The last permanent residents left in 1974. Recent forecasts - on the BBC website - indicate that there will be falls in population throughout the Western Isles. One of the reasons is, apparently, the reluctance of women to live in relative isolation. However, visiting such places has much appeal, as the Northern Light Charters website indicates.
