Scottish Islands Explorer - a life recalled with gratitude

With Lewis grandparents, a mother brought up in Skye, and a childhood spent partly in that island, Derek writes in Hebridean Connection in 1977, not only of the Hebrides but of his wanderings all over 'the last bit of Britain not entirely built upon'. Small wonder there are more people living in Hull than in the whole of he Highlands and Islands.
